Hi All,
I have an Lx Bottom pull front mech on my roadised mountain bike. I would like to put a larger outside chain ring on the chain set as gearing is low, it being a former mountain bike. Does this mean I will also have to change the front mech to accommodate the larger outside chainring? The current ring is 44 I would like to move up to 48-50.
Thanks in advance
Front mech
Re: Front mech
it depends how large your inside ring is, what you frame is like, and which model of LX mech it is. It should have a model number like FD-M5xx or something. If you get the relevant techdoc it will give you some conservative guidance; going a few teeth more will usually work out OK IME. You will certainly have to slide the front mech upwards slightly, so just be sure that there isn't something daft like a clash with bottle bosses...
