Joining chain
Re: Joining chain
My Rohloff chain tool has a tungsten carbide anvil for peening the end of the pin after joining a chain. In about a quarter of a century of use of the tool, to my knowledge no chain that I've joined with it has come apart at the join. That's mostly 9-, 10-, and 11-speed chains.
Re: Joining chain
Re removing a quicklink,I find it helps by squeezing the plates together whilst easing the link back and forth and pushing the ends together, nearly always works.

Re: Joining chain
Comments noted. I raised it as I used to join SRAM/Sedis chains all the time with no problems (with the same trusted tool ......but had not for a while having used quick links. This time the pin went in easier than I would have liked and as pointed out I will not now be sure of where the join is.
So the answer to my question was I should have used the old quick link as a temporary fix whilst I got some spare quick links. drat. So it'll be another chain soon probably, as the missus won't be happy if it does give up in action.
