0.2 mm - what's the difference?

Postby Claireysmurf » 18 Sep 2013, 6:06pm

I have just spotted a seat post for only £3. My bike frame needs a 27.2mm seat post but this is 27.0mm. Will it fit?

0.2mm?!

Thanks

No, it will slip or you will have to over tighten the bolt maybe damaging the frame.

handily for you, beer cans are 0.1mm. so a bit cut out with scissors that's a incomplete wrap around the seatpost and 4inches long will sort it for little cost and little effort.

it's sharp though, so take care

if you do the beer can thing, on some frames with a separate seat clamp, you can tuck the edges of a shim beneath the edge of the clamp. I'd probably not do that on a new build though, best to get the right size seat pin.

cheers

I've got the same seatpost, although my frame is 27.0, so it's a perfect fit. Halfords do your size for a handful of pounds more. It actually has a fairly good amount of layback, which may or may not be important to you.
