Painful shoes with cleats

I have some old MTB shoes with Time ATAC cleats that I would still use but the cleat seems to exert a painful pressure point on the ball of my foot. I have some insoles but the pressure point remains. They are old and I think that the insides may have deteriorated somewhat. There is a hollow inside that has the metal plate onto which the cleat is bolted. I though of trying to fill that hollow with something that would help.

So any ideas for overlaying something inside the shoe to eliminate the pressure point?

I had a similar problem with my Aldi cycling shoes.I filled the gaps on the inside with hot melt glue.

Inserts made of 3 or 4 sheets of plastic milk canister sheet cut to shape and glued together.

The cleat plate pocket inside the shoe should be filled or covered with something to give the foot support.

However, if the sole plate stiffener in the shoe is weak or failed, the sole could be flexing and causing discomfort too.

IME some soles are not stiff enough when the shoes are new; they can hardly be expected to improve with age.

I had a similar problem with my Aldi cycling shoes.I filled the gaps on the inside with hot melt glue.

Strange, never had that issue with my Aldi shoes - I've had like 4 pairs of them, they tend to fail in other ways!

Thanks for the ideas. I will try out the plastic bottle cut outs and stack a few together with some silicone sealant. I'll try to remember to report back.

I've successfully used BluTack, which isn't as messy as silicone sealant, and then just apply some tape for a waterproof seal.
