Bottom bracket for a tricross triple crankset?
Bottom bracket for a tricross triple crankset?
Just picked up a nice new Tricross frame for a build up. Have a shimano deore triple on an audax bike I'd like to transfer over. Been told it's not worth moving bottom bracket from the audax, so wondering what the size I need to go for is to accomodate the triple...and whether it's a job a noob should attempt - or leave to LBS? I don't have crank puller so would need to sort this too.
Re: Bottom bracket for a tricross triple crankset?
unless it is knackered, I would re-use the old BB; at least you know it is the correct length for the crankset. If you remove it (and there is no point in leaving it in the frame, is there...?) you can use it as a pattern at least.
You will need to buy tools or use the bike shop for this.
BTW saying you 'have a deore crankset what BB do I need?' is a bit like asking what size tyres fit a Ford; there are lots of different ones.
good luck with the project
cheers

Well, reading between the lines...
BB length also depends on what rear hub width you have, for best chainline. Using a Deore BB/CS with a 130 rear spacing would best use a slightly narrower BB than on a 135 MTB hub (107/100mm). It will also depend on seat tube width...or whether you use a MTB FD or a road version. Fat tubes need a wider BB to allow the FD to work within it's range. I think <32mm tube can use regular size BB spec.
...suggests a ST BB, although Deore did briefly come as Octalink, which would use a crank puller.boink wrote: I don't have crank puller so would need to sort this too.

Just found this. From what I've read this is the BB I need/can use and in order to fit a triple chainring I need the 68 x 122.5. Current bike is set up as a road bike. Not MB components.

122.5 sounds like the BB length for a 20 year old Deore. What is the model/part number on the chainset?

Re: Bottom bracket for a tricross triple crankset?
LBS confirmed that it could be swapped over for £60. Bike recycling set up I've used before said they could do it for £25, and sort internal cabling and transfer of other bits too.
Had intended to do it myself but for such a good deal I'm going to use one of these for the first time ever.
