Helmet clip gone

I bought a Giro Atmos helmet last year when I bought my new commuting cycle.

Just gone to put it on for the cycle home and the buckle/clip (male bit) is missing and appears to have fallen off. Can't find it anywhere. A quick call to the supplier finds that replacements aren't available.

What options do I have?
Can't chuck out a £130 rrp (£85 street) helmet coz of a 10 pence clip.

Of course, here was me thinking that I'd only replace the missing but when its easier to just replace both.

replacing the side where the adjustment is made is usually pretty easy but replacing the other side usually means unthreading the strap from the helmet completely on that side. This is certainly a PITA (best mark where the straps sit if you want them back in the same place) and sometimes it is near enough impossible.

BTW the adjusting side of the buckle can't come off easily if the loose ends of the straps are tethered well. The little rubber band they supply for this is not adequate; I usually add three or four 'bands' made from old inner tubes (wrapped round three times in the right way they can lay flat), and place one right up close to the buckle; that way the helmet adjustment never slackens by itself.

I had the need to replace a part on my Giro Ionos helmet last year. I'd originally bought it from JD Cycles, in Ilkley, and asked them for the spare. I was amazed that the part was available as a spare, and the shop got one for me within a week - and then fitted it for free.

They did warn me that the British agency for Giro had recently changed, or was about to, and the spare had come from residual stock at the previous agency. They'd not been advised about availability of spares from the new agents, apparently despite enquiries. LBC's post sounds like bad news, and a reason to change brands.

This is really bad news, because I think that it's essential to replace the pads in a helmet fairly frequently. I have two helmets (both Giros - never had another brand) - with different ventilation levels, one for summer and one for winter and although I rinse the pads under the cold-tap after each run the combination of sweat and body-oils makes them pretty unsavoury eventually.

Does anyone know who the new Giro agents are?

I've already started investigating for a different brand; I've only looked at Specialized so far, and they seem very good - unfortunately (for me) they're just the wrong shape for my forehead. I've tried three different models - it's just one of those things - we're all different.

Quite a few outdoor / outfitter type places sell replacement clips, or rucksack repair kits with a variety of clips in them.

Thanks cycleuk - but if you look on CRC website page you'll see that the Ionos pads are "out of stock".

It's fairly typical of internet sites to advertise things they've not got in stock - but at least CRC are being honest and open about it. As they're not saying "no longer available", I assume they're hoping for the best.

My LBS got me a couple of sets when they learned that Gyro were changing their UK agents, and I also got a set from JD Cycles - just in case - so I'm OK for a couple of summers.

Giro are now distributed by Zyro in the UK following the fallout with Madison. LBSs should again be able to order spare Giro parts.

I've got a high end Giro helmet that I "dinked" last year, both clips yours for the cost of the postage sound OK?
(You can have the whole thing on same basis but it will cost more to post)
