Political language is designed to make lies sound reasonable and murder respectable, and to give an illusion of substance to pure wind.

My 23 stone colleague speaking to 10 stone me:
“Inside every thin bloke there’s a fat bloke trying to get out”.

I used to work with a very jolly fat woman who said to me;

"Inside the body of every fat woman there is a slim woman screaming to get out. I always shut the bitch up with chocolate"!

Don McLean wrote and sang 'American Pie', a long complicated song with lots of words

'Please, what does the song MEAN?', earnest journalists used to ask him

'It means that I never have to work again', he chortled

I went to see Steve Harley (Cockney Rebel) at the Renfrew Ferry in Glasgow years ago and he introduced 'Come Up and See Me, Make Me Smile' by saying, "This is my pension..." :)

In a similar vein, when Dylan was asked back in the sixties what his songs were about he replied that some of his songs were about three minutes while he once wrote a song ('Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands") that was about eleven minutes.

Members of a group should be different from one another, should not have too much in common

Whatabout the group on these fora? We are surprisingly diverse in some ways, but fairly homogeneous: mostly male, white, quite rich one imagines. Standard of formal qualifications might vary a bit more

Whatabout groups of friends, clubs, societies in real life? In my Wobbley Wheelers there was some diversity, enough well-to-do people

Work without a vision is slavery. Vision without work is a pipe dream. But vision with work is the hope of the world.
