Re: Towns with Products - List?
Audax67 mentioned Tripes à la mode de Caen but it seems you don't need to invade Normandy to find lots of the stuff
Re Yorkshire Pudding, there used to be a saying that you couldn't make a decent one if you weren't born in Yorkshire. I think I was about 14 when I realised that was a load of tripe. However, YP doesn't have to be like the product of a cardboard factory. Leave the roasting pan in when the beef is removed from the oven and being rested, turn up the heat to mark 7 and when the oven has had chance to heat up to that temperature, pour in your batter. The YP is then eaten as the first course and you have to have thought out how you will make your gravy.

I'm impressed with the caution about the ones that aren't towns... but are there any others in there?profpointy wrote: ↑28 Nov 2021, 5:24pm Sheffield steel

PS: In general who classes cities as towns and who doesn't, please?
Re: Towns with Products - List?
I don't think their naming has much direct connection with the place. Reputedly named after a big footed Tory PM, one time Earl of Derby.

You're absolutely correct.
We made some cheese years ago. Sort of cottage cheese stuff after someone showed us how to do it.
Sorry, can't remember how we did it. We could have called it Gunnislake Cheese perhaps?
Just say we made our home-made cottage cheese in Stilton. It wouldn't and couldn't be Stilton Cheese at all as that name is protected ............ but not in Stilton!

To be precise, I suspect you can call it whatever you like, so long as you don't try to sell it.

Fort William, famous for its Glencoe whisky distillery. Most of this goes to expensive export single malt markets, but I've heard quite a bit of it makes its way into the local community Just as well, because it's regularly voted 'most boring town in Scotland'!
