Daughter's first session of bike training yesterday.

Post by Bonefishblues »

We recently signed our daughter up for some coaching on this scheme:

https://www.bmcc2000.com/bmcc-coaching/

We went along for her first session yesterday - Mum, Dad and 8 yo daughter, plus light rain/damp, cold and a school car park, armed with a shiny new bike.

In short, it was an absolutely excellent session in every respect. Matt the coach was at pains to ensure that we understood that it was seen as a feeder to their club and greater participation, which was fine, but our objectives are more modest at this point, just wanting her to be a more competent and confident cyclist. We'll then see where that takes us.

It was a delight to see our daughter circulating in a group, beaming from ear to ear, being helped by a couple of older girls as well as receiving some truly excellent coaching from someone sensitive to her particular needs - like many kids, she's somewhat nervous of the new, and needs encouragement to get going. She also sometimes fails to grasp exactly what's required, or being asked, so patience in the form of re-statement/paraphrasing is required.

Nice to be able to recount a wholly positive cycling story - she can't wait to get back and learn more :D

Oh we've done that. And Karate. And piano. The H**** riding starts this week, And street Dance. And Beavers. I'm sure I have missed some others.

Not the least busy kid ever, albeit some are over and done iyswim!

Besides, the dad pride when she pedalled off under her own steam was worth every penny of admission :D
