Over in the Extinction Rebellion topic, a thread drift mentioned problems with cars blocking charging points. How? Do charging points only have one parking space nearby? Are the leads very short? If yes to both, why? That seems like a daft design.

The leads are usually quite long - long enough to get around the car at any rate. Usually there's one space per charging point and they're usually in a row if there's more than one.

The problem is if someone parks in the spot who shouldn't be there what can you do?

It might seem as though you could just park behind them and plug in (and I think that occasionally happens) but that would be obstruction which is illegal particularly if you then wonder off to do your shopping or something.
(Personally I think it's tough and should be allowed but unfortunately I don't make the laws...)

Not difficult, this one is in Lewes, East Sussex. A couple of IC cars blocking the EV charge point, with no other access:

Same situation, different cars this Sunday when I passed by.

Looks like there's plenty of access if we reclass charging an EV as "loading" so the double-yellows don't matter.

But that's a classic example: I really don't understand why that charger was installed on a corner of the car park instead of in the middle, between six bays. Is it an EV facility some council has installed more for show or box-ticking, rather than practicality?
