Max Torque for tough climbs

Post by Polisman »

Was wondering if the Bafang mid mount motor would provide sufficient torque to propel 85kg rider and 15kg full suspension set up, off road up gradients of 1:4, 25%?

Won't be using this on road so 500-1000w motor considered.

I can't answer directly, but a couple of resources:

You will get lots of answers at https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/forums ... ussion.42/
and some of their related forums (eg on kits and on MTBs)

If you want to do some calculation yourself here are some details on various motors: https://www.ebikes.ca/tools/simulator.html
I think that has got a little out of date so some modern motors missing.

Even if you are using it off road but on public access land (such as bridleways) the legal nominal 250w limit still applies. The only situation where it does not apply is private land with landowner's permission and NOT on public rights of way.
