Replacement cells.

Post by John Holiday »

My Emu pedelec is nearly five years old & the battery is well past it's best.
Rather than just throwing it out & buying new, does anyone know if there are people doing replacement cells?

Jimmy is your man.
See viewtopic.php?f=55&t=125671&p=1283290&hilit=jimmy+recell#p1283290 for details.
(I've never used him, but widely recommended on pedalecs site by people who have)

I have seen it said that if the battery is pretty standard it may be cheaper to replace than recell. Probably less good for the environment, and you will end up with a better battery by respectable recelling than with a cheapo new one.

most packs can be recelled, though doesnt alway prove the cheapest option.

more info on the current pack will be needed.

Ebikebatteries .co.uk, Bounds Green, N.London, Jimmy will recell the case for about £300 using only top branded 10a - 20a cells.
He will arrange currier pick up and delivery in the price.

Just had the replacement battery delivered from
ebikebatteries in London.
Excellent service, very helpful & half the price of new battery from makers.
Highly recommended.
Hopefully another five years or so & greater range.

Good job, saves a good few quid and saves wasting a case not needed.
Out if interest what cells were used for the re-cell ?

Apparently the new cells fitted are Panasonic/Sanyo
NCR 18650 GA cells,3.5Ah.
They are the highest capacity & discharge currently available.
The overall battery capacity has increased significantly.
Went out for a twenty odd mile ride on Sunday and there was still well over half charge still available.
Suggests that the range has increased from about 25 to 60ish.
Hope that this information assists.
