Simon Cowell breaks back falling from electric bike

Post by mercalia »

Has any one ever done the same on an ordinary bike or was it an expected acceleration from stop that did it?

I seem to recall that the majority of e bike injury crashes in NL are related to activating the motor in error during mounting or dismounting. Some manufacturers tell you to leave it in standby until mounted and put it back to standby before dismounting, but I guess people either forget or think they know best. Difficult to do that without a motor.

Then another significant chunk of injuries are people knocking or dropping the heavier bikes onto themselves while dismounting - I've done that a few times with unpowered all-road hybrids but they're not really heavy enough to hurt.

Also, I don't think such injuries while stopped are even counted as road casualties in the UK.

In the story I read, he's quoted as saying he thinks he fainted, maybe a good thing he was on an E-bike rather than driving one of his many sports cars. It is a bad news story. not just for Mr Cowell's back, but also for the impression it gives of E-bikes being dangerous. We don't know the details of course, of either the accident or the bike. In the US it was possibly a much more powerful E-bike than would have been permitted n the UK.

Piers Morgan was among those who wished Cowell "a full and speedy recovery" on social media.

He's not my cup of tea but I'll second that

Those dangerous e-bikes and scooters eh?
And twice yesterday at two seperate TLs whilst I was out for a ride I witnessed motorcycles(of the 200mph sports variety)setting off pulling wheelies for at least 30 to 40m,one that had to then brake heavily for the next TL less than 100m away.......

I think the fainting relates to a fall in 2017, not the ebike incident.

Who is Simon Cowell?

Sorry to hear of anyone being hurt, let alone on a bike, electric or otherwise.
I wish him a speedy recovery.

It's a CAB Recon electric trail bike not an e-bike. Basically an electric motorbike costing $8-9k.

That bike is LIMITED to 60mph, de-restricted I dread to think how fast it will go.

The company behind the EB-01 has a long history of working with ICE, from Coswort DFV4 engines to BTCC engines.

The EB-01 has a 15kw motor and 9 speed sequential gearbox.

The bike features around 15:35

Funny how the e- motorbike model changed but that's not unusual with press reports. Early report from Forbes that said it wasn't an ebike claimed the model was the recon costing nearly $9000. Now it's $21000!!!. Much better story now. Rich bugge4 had an accident on something we'd never own.
