Well done for involving your partner-it shows someone with ebike, but not riding. Also no helmet evident,Could be anyones bike but will accept your word.|My insight into Solihull is rooted in dfact

As for Holland no desire to visit-rather visit somewhere more interesting and more undulating.Sounds like Suffolk with tulips and Cherry Brandy.

Extraordinary reply.
The photo shows my wife as I stated. My wife. With our bikes . I think it would be pointless to carry on any dialogue with you. I wish you well.
Quite incredulous.

There are some quite hilly bits of Holland (more so than Denmark), but I agree not the most exciting.
I couldn't seen the hills on Open Cycle Map; the contours were complete obliterated by the overwhelming number of bike paths.

Ha!
Let me invoke the power of copy & paste on behalf of Antbrewer:

I also don't wear a helmet, but that's a different completely different thread. So don't be tempted. :D

Thank you richtea99 for your post.
Be assured I will not be tempted on the helmet subject.

Sometimes after a few hours re reading a comment one's response can change. I now see the questioning and possibly disbelieving content of the reply quite offensive. To doubt the truth of a post is I think wrong.
I think it would be rather churlish to pursue this. I have no desire to gain points in such a dialogue. I was initially trying to lighten the subject but the response from some makes it difficult.

Hey ho we are all different. Thank goodness

Antbrewer - Well that was an ‘interesting’ direction to that thread:-) I think you should just remember Mark Twain - ‘never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level, and then beat you with experience’!!

Some of the grumpy people occasionally venture out of The Tea Shop section. Some appear not to be happy unless they are disagreeing with other members.
If an E-bike helps people get out and ride who might otherwise be put, off then they are a great idea. A guy at work bought his wife a really good E-bike and now they can ride out together at a pace that he wants to ride at. Everyone is a winner.

I have a garage chocked full of all types of cycles...From my latest Trek Madone ( dont tell the wife ive got that ) to a 5 yr old Bosch equipped Ebike (MTB).

We use our ebikes as general transport on holidays. My wife has a heart condition but can get exercise on her ebike. Together we do about 30-45 miles a day bumbling around lanes and tracks...I go out on my carbon fibre road bike first thing thing in the mornings and then we go out together on the bikes ...instead of using the car...much more fun.

I ride sportives and TT but I still enjoy riding my ebike..

I dont use the electric very much nowadays as my level of fitness has much improved other than when riding on beaches , tracks or if I fancy and easy couple of miles at the end of the day. The range of my ebike on ECO mode is 92 miles but I have never managed to run the battery flat.

Ebikes are great fun and if they get people out of cars and onto two wheels then im all for it.....but please dont pull people down for riding them..it may be al they can manage. Also dont accuse them of cheating ...as the 25 stone chap munching away on a fistful of pies did to me a couple of years ago until I asked how many miles a day he rode as he was obviously a pro due to his excellent physique :)

borisface wrote:We bought an ebike, a cube with Bosch motor about 8 months ago, mainly for my wife to use. It's been excellent and in fact I have hogged it since we bought it. I am an experienced cyclist and until relatively recently had a high level of fitness, competing in mountainous gran Fondos and long rides. I live in a mountainous area and the ebike has been great on the climbs. I go out 2-4 times a week on average, maybe 80-120 miles a week. My average speed has been generally 2-3 km/h faster than my previous non electric rides. However, I picked up a rear wheel puncture which is a huge faf as the bike weighs 25kgs. So I took my road bike out instead. I have to say that it felt horrendous. It honestly felt like I hadn't ridden for about 5 years. My breathing was laboured, my legs weak. I've been out a few times since and my average speed is over 20% slower than pre-ebike days and about 40% slower than on the ebike. Moreover I weighed myself and have put on 10 lbs since getting the ebike. The moral from my experience is don't be seduced into thinking that you are getting a decent workout with an ebike. You are not.

I would not be ordering an expensive e bike unless it helps a huge amount!.I have no illusion that zooming up Newlands Valley in Turbo mode is making me extremely fit,but as said by many,at least you are turning the pedals and not sofa surfing.

It's interesting that the focus of discussion on this post has been firmly fixed on the physical. I've seen a number of articles recently that have asserted that outdoor cycling appears to be particularly helpful in maintaining ones higher functions in the face of the passing of time. Apparently "engagement" is the vital factor and I would certainly agree that my engagement is seldom higher than when I'm on the road amd the desire to survive lets rip!
Some of these articles are undoubtedly down to journalists attempting to put some text under a handy attention grabber, but some are more substantial: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/artic ... ne.0211779
The salient point is that a very moderate amount of cycling produced clear cogniive benefits but with no difference between subjects with e bikes and those with conventional bikes.
Just thought it might be of interest to a select group of the membership. I'll certainly be off out for a ride as soon as I can remember where I left the thing....
