£2500 Budget Mercedes or Cube ?

Post by jaybee66 »

I have a £2500 budget for a new electric bike - this will be mainly used for short under 25k rides locally, so the question is would you go for this Mercedes branded bike https://www.nplusbikes.com/e-bikes/ or play it safe with the Cube here https://ebay.to/36l938m

My road bike is a Cube so am happy with the brand but maybe the mid life crisis is saying the nplus merc.

Any opinions gratefully received.

Personally,. I'd go for the cube. The range will be much greater as battery is larger. They are a well known bike brand using a Bosch motor. Not so sure on the Merc as it's not really their core business.

Merc's last attempt at an e-bike was certainly not a success. However, I think both that and the current ones are just a matter of branding and nothing really to do with Mercedes. The Merc does appear to have a very small battery ... the specs are a little confusing. I've found Tektro V brakes fine, but seen less than stellar comments on their hydraulic disk brakes.

I guess it depends whether you want to spend money on a bicycle or on a brand name?

I like the Cube, but really? It's 3 years old. The tech is outdated from the battery to the motor. You can buy a current year model for the same price, if not for a few hundred more.
I wish it were as easy as riding a bike

Cube like most European and US brands are just importers of bikes from the far east. Always check the full terms, I seem to remember Cube had lower weight limits than many brands and their frame warranty was much shorter than many other brands. I'd personally see Cube as quite a low end brand, pretty sure they have used factories in Bangladesh which are some of the cheapest but fairly mediocre/ok quality.

Giant in comparison are an actual manufacturer they control all their own processes, offer high weight limits and have long warranties. I think Giant in the past have made some of the high end Cube bikes but nowadays Giant is too expensive for most brands and they use lower cost factories. Even Halfords use better factories than Cube, I just don't see the point. Actually I think some Apollo bikes in Halfords are made in Bangladesh but their higher end brands are coming from better factories.
