The only thing that matters is the rating manufacturers mark on the motor.

Most online sellers offer 350,500,750w versions. The actual motor unit is identical for all 48v versions, just different firmware I think. I don't use anything like full power, so I doubt the real world performance will be much different with a 250w rated motor.
Woosh only list 250W motors on their site and I would assume that they only sell 250W kits as they are serious about what they do, and selling kits that can't be used legally other than on private land with the landowners permission is irresponsible and will only harm their business. I have bought a 48V hub kit from them and fitted it to my cargo bike. When it is loaded it is probably about the same weight as our tandem with both of us. I have no doubts that this would work well on a tandem as it is a high torque motor designed to develop its power at low speeds. I would expect a mid-drive set up to be a useful addition for a tandem but I would be worried about the internal gears coping with the load. It was for this reason that I opted for a rear wheel kit for the cargo bike.
The 250w 48v isn't solely for Woosh, the motor is available in the UK elsewhere
They do sell 350w hubs the powerful rear BPM is one , the same front one is 250w.
A rating is what ever the manufacturer put's on it.

I haven't suggested that Woosh are the only supplier of 250W 48V hub motors :)

What happens when the bearings in the bottom bracket need replacing with a bottom bracket motor. Are they replaceable or is it a new drive unit and motor.
And are the chainrings a standard 110 bcd size so is it possible to use standard rings in that size. I see some stores are offering double ring sets.
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D

Yes, it is BCD 110.

As for the the bearings question, I don't know and out of the many YT vids on the TSDZ2, I've not seen that particular part discussed/shown.

In the strip down manual I have, just about every part looks easy to get at but whether the parts are easily available, I know not.

Did I suggest that Woosh are the only supplier of the TDSZ? :)

Ah, that seems a much better solution with a UK warehouse.

  • Ah, that seems a much better solution with a UK warehouse.
  • Indeed that is a fair UK price but the same can be had from PSW Power's German warehouse for around $310 USD inc postage and delivered within the week.and no additional taxes. (at least, there hasn't been on the 4 kits I've now bought in the last 5 weeks - that's for family/friends bikes, not just mine - lol).
  • That's a saving of around £90 which some are happy to trade for for UK customer service for what is a very reliable item, but each to their own.
  • The motor kits do seem generally much easier to get hold of - who you 'feel' for is places like Woosh bikes of Southend who has been out of stock for months and who said in a recent post on the Pedelce's forum that his next stock wasn't due until Feb '22
  • Woosh, being sensitive to UK laws, only sell motors labelled as 250w (or so I recall from other postings but I can't evidence that, so maybe take with a pinch of salt) but given iirc all advertised motor power levels are I believe, the same motor just with different firmware embedded in the motor's controller,

I couldn't find the referencing so it was either edited or I mis- interpreted a posting.
