Re: School trying to make numberplates compulsory
Bloody ridiculous. The headmaster is clearly exceeding his authority. He has no right to interfere in how pupils get to school. Travel to and from school occurs outside school hours and off school premises.
The wretched scheme is unworkable anyway. What's to stop a pupil simply removing the stupid "numberplate" from his bike as soon as he leaves school and reattaching it at the school gate the following morning.

Never seen anything more ridiculous in my life.
How much more anti cycling stupidity will this country impose on people before it comes to it's senses?

How do number plates contribute to cycling safety? What's the betting the head doesn't cycle?
And in the same paper http://www.suttonguardian.co.uk/news/15665202.More_safety_concerns_regarding_Tesco_Express_in_Sutton_come_to_light_after_investigation/?ref=ar Do blind people need number plates to improve their safety?
Should this man have been wearing number plates? http://www.suttonguardian.co.uk/news/15592565.Man_dies_after_being__hit_by_lorry__in_Sutton_town_centre/?ref=ar

As with the previous thread, we need a test case to establish where the self made fiefdom of these zealots ends
Re: School trying to make numberplates compulsory
I Noted that the Head has stated that the children run the "risK', it is not a given
risk being refused permission to cycle to school.
Re: School trying to make numberplates compulsory
Who needs permission to cycle to school anyway?
That’s overstepping so many boundaries that it’s absurd.
Anyone fancy making a 2m+ wide numberplate and riding slowly up the road?

A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

You need permission to cycle into school and to leave your bike there, rather than outside exposed to the thieving public.

Then walk it in, all the way in. Put it at the back of the classroom.

I recon to identify a cyclist from a number plate on a bike you need one (or few) central registration bodies. So I see a cyclist with a number plate AB123D jump a red light - do I have to contact every school in the area, cycling organisation and guess who else might be issuing registration plates in case is was a number plate issued by that school/club/etc.. And then I find 2 (or more) schools/clubs/bodies/etc. have issued AB123DE so ... That the Head cannot even see such shortcomings raises questions about his/her abilities and basic "common sense".

Nothing to stop anybody from covering or removing the plates as soon as they leave the school gates.

Whilst I was walking today a car crossed from the outer lane to the inner lane and turned left - all across a set of pedestrian lights at red. The car had number plates as well.
