Attended a meeting with HE this evening to discuss NMU facilities south of the river.

Big picture stuff rather than nitty gritty but when asked if they were going to design and build to IAN195/16 the response was somewhat non-commital.

HE have tweaked the plans and are having another mini-consultation. NCN177 will now be obliterated and re-routed rather than diverted.

The 'recreational' alternative route is on tracks which are currently unmade. They pass through AONB and SSSI, an upgrade to tarmac seems highly unlikely. There is a prospect of an alternative shared use path following new 'local roads' but the arrangements to cross a plethora of slip roads are unclear, perhaps a mix of toucans and uncontrolled crossings.

Unclear which will end up with the NCN designation, it won't be both. There will be a number of other additional recreational trails south of the river, I haven't looked at the Essex sections.

No additional information re mitigation for not being able to use the tunnels, e.g. shuttle service/ferry improvements.
