Operation ‘Close Pass’ launches in Bristol and Bath

The close pass initiative seems to be spreading slowly.

I found this story more interesting - presumably the number of hours cycled by the off-duty officers is going to be significantly more than the on-duty operation. I don't think there needs to be huge numbers of prosecution, just an awareness amongst drivers that the law is now being enforced may change behaviuor significantly.

"As well as these set piece operations colleagues have volunteered to carry our cameras during their off duty recreational and commuting journeys on bikes. We will use the footage obtained to offer education to offending drivers or to prosecute where it is appropriate.

If the officers are not on duty then there is no way that they can actually stop the offending driver and their video evidence is identical to that which many camera carrying cyclists use.

Presumably they will take the same approach with video information from both sources.

Dies this apply to cyclists on the Bristol-Bath cycle route as well? (especially within the Bristol ring road at busy times)!
