Action 3: We will refresh our guidance in Local Transport Note 2/08: Cycle Infrastructure Design to ensure that local authorities can continue to design good, safe and inclusive schemes that work for everyone in accordance with legislation.

We would welcome your feedback. Do you agree or disagree with the action proposed? Are there any other areas which require further attention? Please explain why.

An educated guess would be that new guidelines will be based around IAN 195/16 which are definitely a step in the right direction.

The age old problem of moving from advisory guidleines to mandatory standards continues.

So is the better response to agree with comments, or disagree and call for mandatory standards, or at least councils held liable for losses caused on cycleways that don't follow guidance?

It would certainly be better if they simply adopted IAN 195/16 ( what we don't need is a multiplicity of standards) and made adherence mandatory.
However that would place obligations on the government which they will prefer to avoid.
How far are they likely to be interested in changing standards for cycle Infrastructure outside of special considerations for the disabled ?

Until these are mandatory the 'guidelines' are virtually meaningless :x
