Birmingham's policy of encouraging cycling

Post by rmurphy195 »

As well as using the cycle paths opposite Canon Hill Park as a car park when there's a match on at Edgbaston, Birmingham have a use for the cycle parking facilities near Victoria Square during Christmas time, as I foud when I visited there on Sunday morning ...

I'm impressed by the precision parking

It's actually bad driving. The driver was aiming for the bike!

I only park my bike where vehicles *cannot* go

Went to a talk about town traffic. The expert said: every vehicle has three parking places (at home, at work, at the shops)

He alleged that more problems are caused by parked vehicles than by moving ones.. an interesting opinion?

A local road has a long row of old victorian 2 up/2 down houses opposite an open green space that includes a play area. Cars are parked on both sides of the road reducing it to a single lane. Getting through involves a lot of polite considerate driving by everyone and surprisingly this is the normal standard.

I'm quite happy to wait my turn as this slows the traffic to a speed that is safer - very little chance of even 20mph. :D
