The missing £46 billion

Post by horizon »

Well, well, well, if it isn't our old friend the motorist fleecing the taxpayer of billions once again:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... -fuel-duty

This of course is cash that even ministers now say should have gone to the NHS. But even worse: by freezing fuel duty, to what extent has this contributed to the health problems that the NHS has to deal with? And if fuel were properly taxed, to what extent would health problems be reduced? So it's a double whammy from motorists. Well, who would think?

In fact Fair Fuel UK reckon that they have cost the NHS £100 billion over the same period - and that's by their own admission:

Since 2010 FairFuelUK has saved drivers over £100bn in planned tax hikes in duty and VAT through constructive and objective campaigning.

It is surely true.
Yet the fact is that the very life blood of our nation is cheap oil energy.
It has been said that every plateful of food set in front of one is around 70% pure oil, when fertilizer, transport and the very energy that plows and harvests it is all added in.

Now the resulting cheap food is desirable (especially if you are poor) but maybe such a dependence is a significant danger?

Just think how many potholes (motorists biggest complaint) could have been fixed for that money!
