Hackney and Islington Councils ban all petrol/diesel cars from certain streets in London
only electric and cycles allowed

Only electric cars, the newest hybrids, hydrogen vehicles and bikes or e-bikes will be allowed during the morning and evening rush hours in London's first "ultra-low emissions zones".

good idea should be extended esp during the ruch hour?

Plusminus One? A similar thing was done in Hamburg

The banned vehicles have to take a longer route to avoid the restricted areas, they use more energy and create more pollution
Cycling - of course, but it is far better on a Gillott..alternative facts welcome

So in other words, it's yet another way to throw that pollution-maker over the council border and make it somebody else's problem (= throw that dead skunk into your neighbour's garden). Some of the pollution won't respect the border and will still blow into the borough...

We need national government to get serious and take nationally-planned-and-coordinated measures to reduce pollution, especially on transport because it can easily move across council borders.

Temporarily.

When those folk need to buy a new vehicle they'll consider a less polluting one. Sometimes you have to take the long view.
