Cycle on the Senedd 2018

Post by warrendavies »

Please 'Cycle on the Senedd' and show your support for Active Travel in Wales!

Meet on the steps of the Senedd on Tuesday 2 October at 1pm to lobby AMs from all parties. Bring your bike!

Cardiff Cycle City are coordinating a Cycle on the Senedd to call for a doubling of investment in active travel. We will be calling on Assembly Members to back our call for £20.00 per head to be invested in safe and convenient walking and cycling so that Wales can start to enjoy all the health, environmental and economic benefits that we were promised in the Active Travel Act.

See original information here: http://cardiffcyclecity.org/2018/09/04/ ... he-senedd/

For those who can't make this event in Cardiff, a Wrexham Meetup has been arranged for 6pm on the same date. Meeting in Queen's Square, Wrexham Town Centre. All welcome to attend :D .

Follow up to the very successful 'Cycle on Senedd' event...

The Cycle on the Senedd event was a great success with around 200 people gathering on the steps of the Senedd and twelve Assembly Members from a variety of parties expressing their support for our aims.

As a direct result of the event, last week we had a useful meeting with Ken Skates, the Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Transport. He was very receptive to our calls for an increase in investment and a better plan for spending it. However he made no definite promises of action.

To maintain the momentum that has been created, we have teamed up with Cycling UK to organise a follow up email campaign. They are providing us with a web tool which will allow supporters to have an email sent to their AMs, constituency and regional, asking them to put pressure on Ken Skates to double investment in active travel and introduce an evidence based strategy for the implementation of the Active Travel Act.

You can access the online tool here: www.cyclinguk.org/cycleonthesenedd

Please visit the site and email your AMs, it only takes a couple of minutes.

In order for the campaign to be a success we need to make as many people as possible aware of it. We would be really grateful for anything you can do to promote the campaign on social media using the above link and the hashtag #CycleontheSenedd.
