Stop Killing Cyclists lead a procession and a die in outside parliament today 13-Oct-18.

Afterwards there were some powerful speeches nearby including two calls for

£3 Bn to be spent on cycling
Fuel tax escalator to be continued

Maybe others would like to add some more detail about the day.

£3Bn per year right? because that amount over 5 or 10 years is still meaningless, also when you have CUK backing micky poor infra like bedford turbo roundabouts plus garbage like the London superhighway it's a waste of money. A lot of the money is swallowed up by being used on improving things for motorists and pedestrians in any case.
Closing down main through routes in towns and cities would be massively cheaper than crap infra and have vastly greater effect on cycling safety. Infra that continually criss crosses roads has disastrous effects as we see in NL where there are over 60 deaths a year at these intersections.

Extremely well organised event, my thanks to all concerned. Walking pace procession through central London behind the hearse, die in outside parliament and speeches on the need for cycling and walking to be safe choices for all, and the urgent need to reduce pollution and CO2 emissions.

Aims:
£3 billion per year from central government for cycling, approx 10% of the transport budget.
Reinstate the fuel duty escalator
An end to car culture.

Criticism of Cycling UK and others for neither giving the event their direct support nor agreeing to inform their members that it was taking place.

Went there today, really enjoyed it, and felt it was carried out in a very respectful way

KLWNBUG ran a guided ride from King's Cross to/from a past SKC-organised National Funeral and Die-in, with a half-dozen or so members paying £25 each to travel in, but SKC couldn't even be bothered to mention it so no-one other than our group and I think someone from Camcycle turned up. If you're not LCC, CTC or BC, it seems you don't count to SKC. Plus, SKC seems to have no respect for other groups' planning and supporting this year's event would have meant late-notice rescheduling.

Much as I sympathise and support SKC, it does seem to be a one-way-street with SKC demanding support under slogans like "British Cyclists Must Campaign Together" which is true, but while SKC fails to support other groups, it can make it difficult to persuade people to support their events a second time. Is there any sign of that changing?

Damned if I can remember. It'll be lost in the depths of facebook messenger by now, as that seemed to be the only way to contact them back then.

I stumbled across this SKC event as a retweet on my twitter feed, perhaps mid-August. Shortly after a friend asked if I wanted to go along. A plan was hatched and we rode up to the smoke together last Saturday.

Since making those plans I've come across the SKC facebook page. From the view of an oustider to the group looking in the "organised" feeder rides seemed very much last minute things, certainly less than a weeks notice for the one from Lewisham that we could have joined. It was easier to stick with our own plan.

It wouldn't be possible for me to say whether SKC have changed, I don't know how they were before. I'm glad I went and I may well be back to support them again next year.

Yeah, it's a good cause and I may well support their other events. It's just the criticism of other groups for not supporting theirs seems a bit off when they don't seem to reciprocate.

2nd National Funeral for the Unknown Cyclist will be held on Sept 7th 2019.
