Good to see people making an effort for improved safety.
Perhaps A LIST OF MEASURES could be provided to make roads safer for cyclists and all road users.
1, 50 mph limit as a general speed limit unless signed otherwise
2, 0.5 drink drive limit
3, improved legislation on close passing
4, extra investment in high standard cycling facilities
5, annual cycling safety conference with research and information

Would support 4 and 5 to avoid being tagged as anti-motorist.
IMHO we need to go for full segregation between sustainable and non-sustainable transport. Although 99% of motorists are brilliant, about 1% make cycling dangerous. This is probably true for cyclists also and in this case it is their lives they are risking as well as our taxes when it all goes wrong.
Some will say that it is not possible to fully segregate probably because they live in quiet areas of the country where they can use quiet roads. In places like London it is not realistic to share roads, and cyclists that do are more like warriors, and it is fast becoming a war zone with increased traffic and congestion.
IMHO money is better spent on infrastructure rather than enforcement.
Since we are going to need to move to low energy zero emission transport then why not do this now and leave the unsustainable transport to a mess of its own creation.
I am detecting a whipping up of hatred against cyclists as evidenced by repeated articles in our local press (like the Aniston case) of incidents that did not even happen in Cranebridge. However incidents where there have been fatalities caused by police car drivers or by bus drivers are totally ignored. As another example a black cab driver shouted at cyclists assembling before the procession that "you are all a load of Nazies".
Charming.

99%, where do you live, paradise? Enforcement need not cost money, it could be revenue neutral or very profitable, +1!
