Hi.

Does anyone have a hard copy, or a photo of the Daily Mail article covered here?

https://www.cyclinguk.org/news/misleadi ... -dismissed

I've formally escallated three times now in the IPSO, and been told that because my complaint is regarding the online article, they can't do anything else.

However, if i complained about the article, as printed in a UK newspaper, that's a different story....

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Ta!

Libraries used to keep copies of the papers, have you tried your local ones?

If your public library service doesn't subscribe to the Daily Mail, they may well subscribe to an electronic reosurce called ProQuest- this allows you to search a wide range of newspapers and magazines, including those behind a paywall. Ask your local library service if they have this service- the bigger library services should do.

I believe the headline has been changed since originally published, hence the desire to get hold of the original printed version.

Trouble with statistics.....

There was a guy called Smith who ran a Speedophile site called S@afespeed

Amongst his claims was this one

If you choose the right figures then you can prove anything

Basically he took the number of fatalities caused by vehicles, digested by the total mileage of all vehicles, then did the same for cyclists.

Per mile travelled cyclists were in fact more dangerous

However confounding factors like much of that mileage was on motorways with no vulnerable road users

Calculated by journey or time then the risk changes

A complaint would be difficult as the story is “correct” given their chosen analysis
