And it appears the minister ordered officials to ignore recent environmental commitments in order to approve 27bn of new roads https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... ial-advice

One aspect to such revelations is how so many of our politicians do stuff on the assumption their actions will never become public. Yet increasingly their actions do become public and it then goes through a familiar playbook: PM states s/he has complete confidence in failed minister, nobody appears in front of any TV reporters, failed minister disappears for a bit, play for time and wait for some bigger news story to emerge. Recent similar "scandal" with our Minister for Favourable Building Regulations for Conservative Party Donors. Many years ago that would have been then end of his career but these days, worst might be a few months without Ministerial perks before a cabinet reorganisation means the press have moved on to other news. But even that is less likely these days.

This particular report is particularly disappointing given the spin the PM is putting on his "greed credentials" and with next COP conference in the UK. Things like this and the approval of a new coal mine reenforces the impression that our Government's environmental claims are just spin and PR and in reality meaningless.

There is definitely no will to implement active travel. A vicious circle I guess as we can't have localisation until we stop our addiction to oil.

Put another way there will be no votes in active travel until there is localisation.

I'm not sure about no will. Definitely confusion/ mixed messages.

The government recently said plans for a new cycle route needs to be revised as it isn't up to standard - BBC News - Gloucestershire council told to review cycle path plan.

Unless, of course, it was deliberate & is some sort of twisted plot to give out the message "We want to build all these lovely roads for all you wonderful motorists but we're not allowed to. It's not our fault really"!
