A warning/information sign suffices for that. As linked to earlier, the long term ambition for this route is to be properly accessible and specifically mentions wheelchairs. That is presumably why those barriers do have a reasonable gap in them, which is also why they're imo pointless.

Re terminology, 'non-standard cycle' is a fairly established term, it's used plenty in design guidance and by campaign groups.

Unfairly established. I think I was present when a member of I think WitneyBUG challenged its use by CTC. The only standard for a cycle excluding diversity is from the UCI (so British Cycling overuse it) and CUK should unambiguously reject it IMO. No campaign group worth its salt should still be using it.
