goverment petition

Post by CyberKnight »

Run a public awareness campaign to address driver aggression toward cyclists

The Department of Transport should run a national public awareness campaign to educate motorists about dangerous, inappropriate and aggressive behaviours that can lead to the injury and even death of cyclists. The attitude that cyclists should not be on roads needs to end.

Yes, it's bridle path, not bridal path.
I have seen electric MTBs churning up bridal paths largely because the indolent rider needs make no effort to propel his bike.
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

The misspelling of bridle ,with bridal ,was bate and a fish was duly caught/court.A bridle path reflect the use by horses in its title.

Ah yes. They are however full homophones.
As are "sweet" and "suite".
Which can lead to smiles.....

A newly married couple go into a Motel in the N of England.
The receptionist noticing confetti on the bride's shoulders asks, "Oh, would you like the Bridal, Suite?

To which the Bride replies:-
"No thanks, I think I'll just hang onto his ears until I get used to it!"

One 2021 AGM submitted motion referred to including cycling related petitions being listed in Cycle, discussions are ongoing to see if Cycling UK will allow members to vote on the issue. Petitions help to raise the profile of issues and increases discussions. Parliament has not made it easy for petitions be to fully considered. The process may be worth reviewing to see if a more suitable procedure could be worth trying, a Consultation on the Petition process, to see how it could be improved.

It's doing rather well (which I see as good news). Already at 15k votes which means Government have to explain why they are going to ignore it. But given the long available timescales I think it might have a chance to hit the 100k votes which would make it considered for a debate in Parliament (it's open until mid-Dec 2021).

Another forum I used to frequent had phenomenon called "Niwikki's Law" (named after the person who first described it). It went something like, "Anyone who posts to correct somebody else's spelling will make a spelling mistake in the correcting post."
Everyone's ghast should get a good flabbering now and then.

PS: I'm in favour of donations to charity based on Skitt's Law. But only in play when you're "correcting" others...
