Equally all cyclists (and car drivers) should experience what it is like to drive an HGV.Bullseye wrote: ↑28 Aug 2021, 10:57pm We have a few Lorry drivers in my cycling group and they are very much pro cycling and very experienced drivers. Personally I think everyone learning to drive should be on a cycling awareness course as part of the test not just singling out Lorry drivers.
And nobody should be driving on our roads for a living if they can't read our road signs.
An appreciation of the problems of other users of the shared spaced called roads is useful.basingstoke123 wrote: ↑31 Aug 2021, 1:00amEqually all cyclists (and car drivers) should experience what it is like to drive an HGV.Bullseye wrote: ↑28 Aug 2021, 10:57pm We have a few Lorry drivers in my cycling group and they are very much pro cycling and very experienced drivers. Oh yeah a company that treats staff like this is really heroic.Bonefishblues wrote: ↑8 Sep 2021, 3:51pm Give it to Hermes et al - now that's a sector which was something of an unsung hero over the last 18 months or so.
Me too. As with lengthening the permitted hours of driving there should be a safety assessment before the change and an evaluation after it. And both should be published. And each could be run as a randomised controlled trial, and should be.simonhill wrote: ↑8 Sep 2021, 5:51pmGovernment to shorten HGV driver testing process - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-58487347
I hope it is safe.

The Environment Agency has told water firms they can temporarily reduce the amount of chemicals used for the treatment of waste water.
The move comes in response to problems in the chemical supply chain caused by the lorry driver shortage.
You will note I said that 'the sector' was an unsung heropete75 wrote: ↑8 Sep 2021, 6:55pmOh yeah a company that treats staff like this is really heroic.Bonefishblues wrote: ↑8 Sep 2021, 3:51pm Give it to Hermes et al - now that's a sector which was something of an unsung hero over the last 18 months or so.
