BMW ad showing close passing of cyclists
I thought Europe was supposed to be more tolerant. Just seen this on the telly 20 mins ago:

..for the new BMW X3. The driver passes a group of cyclists donned in blue lycra (I think) with about a foot to spare. Not cool.

Ah but they were riding 3 abreast so it's fair game.
Seriously, it looks ok to me: decent speed, fully over to the other side of the road, friendly waves and a better overtaking distance than I often get on my commute.

Not sure they were 3 abreast, one is more in front.
Anyway, yes it appears all friendly but its not best practise surely?
Re: BMW ad showing close passing of cyclists
The overtake wasn't too bad, he was about as far over as he could be on that road, overtook slowly..
He did however cut in sharply, but then he had to the next scene was coming...

A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

I can't anything wrong there,I think the "cut in sharply" was more camera angle/sweep movement than anything.

Nay, I think if any group should have their heckles raised, it's the people buing BMW X5s on the promise of an impossible dream of eternal happiness from the inside of a metal box!
Re: BMW ad showing close passing of cyclists
We should be applauding BMW for the honesty of their advertising
They have portrayed their average customer to a T

Re: BMW ad showing close passing of cyclists
One of the cyclists appears to give a friendly wave to the 4x4 driver. Not realistic surely?
Power to the pedals
Re: BMW ad showing close passing of cyclists
Ironically at first glance it does look like the cyclist is giving the driver "the finger"
Re: BMW ad showing close passing of cyclists
Some of us dream about being passed with that much space.

It is a goodly amount of space. I'd be happy with that this side of 80mph...

So not by a BMW then

I would mutter under my breath and leave it at that.
In the normal scheme of things I reckon that's an average overtake.
Of course you can't make allowances for people who having paid good money to have people look up to them take offence when they're not given the respect they feel they deserve.
A few hundred years ago, such a person would have dismounted from their noble steed, hacked the commoners/cyclists head of with their mighty weapon and flicked a gold piece in the direction of their widow before trotting off leaving people gasping at their fine stallion and beautiful finery.
I wonder if back then the commoners forced into the mud at the side of the road by the self indulgent also muttered "tossers" under their breath?

The message coming from this ad is surely........ Why sit in a tin box when there is so much fun and excitement available outside?
