Great spot and nice pic

Lovely to spot a crossbill - it's a bird I've never seen. On my ride this morning I did see ten hares and passed what I think was a sedge warbler singing its heart out on a reed by the side of the road.

Trying some of this rabbit food, had a ploughman's and found it bearable occasionally.
Don't get on with Hellman's light mayo it's vile.
It's a bit of a culture shock not having the usual fayre.
Rode to pub and left the car at home.
Had a pint instead of 3 or 4 and didn't need Doris to drive home.
Doris's office has a new George foreman and an air frier, binned the deep fat frier.
Oh and we have a fruit bowl and a set of scales.
Sure part of the snacks are comfort eating.

Views from my bike ride earlier this week, which incidentally was my longest ever day ride, 70 miles, including 6,000 feet of ascent.

Bit of drizzle here rode a little before tea to the latest diet delight, passable this evening as a one off

Must be the west shore of Coniston. Such a lovely part of the Lakes. I sometimes pop up there to Kelly Hall Tarn to watch the sunrise.

If you’d been cycling on the Northumberland Coast yesterday you may have come across Harrison Ford on his bike. He is currently filming an Indiana Jones movie. Just outside Bamburgh is a temporary mini film studio. Must be 20 huge lorries and a massive marquee.

The weather was a perfect sunny low '60's temperature here in W.Lanc's today.
I went for a ride to a local junk emporium.
I found a battered and scraped mystery object in the gutter at the side of the road, clue, I know what it is, but not why it is. A bit further on in the journey in Rufford I was treated to an impromptu aerobatics display by a Pitts Special overhead, magic little high powered American biplanes designed specifically for that purpose in the mid 1940's and still made today.

I finally made it to the junk shop and purchased a couple of nice blue/black lustreware bowls for a quid, which I needed, and a Pringle sleeveless golfing sweater, another Pound; and handy as an extra layer on the bike in the winter. Made in Hawick where my Dad was a knitter. It has the added bonus of a golfing badge embroidered on it because as any fule no, fellow cyclists love golfers.
Nice to see it being dry enough for the cereal harvest to get going properly in the last week as well, that lovely smell coming off the fields.
I bought half a dozen eggs from the roadside on the way back as well, a perfick day's cycling, on a free bike which I was given a while back (thanks Dave) and am just starting to use whilst the Bob Jackson's unwell in the headset department
All that remains for the day to be perfect is not discovering Man.U's score before Match of The Day at 10.30
Feel free to guess the mystery object.
How's anyone else's cycling day been , good I hope?

I drove through Hawick today, on my way back to Lancaster after a lovely weekend visiting friends ear Chirnside in the Scottish Borders. We watched birds at Budle Bay on the Northumberland coast, visited St Cuthbert's Cave, wandered the countryside in dusty clouds from the combines harvesting cereal crops and drank some beautiful French wines. I hadn't seen them since before the pandemic. A beautiful way to end summer.

Lucky man, I'll have to get up there before long.
Lovely picture above by the way, beautiful.
Our Dad was born on this farm, in Wilton to be strictly accurate, viewed from Hawick the other side of the Teviot valley a few years back on a visit to our Cousins.

Re: A positive thread
Had a good cycle with my niece and her partner up from Wales, good ride and I was pleasantly surprised that we all were comfortable at the same sort of speed!

My first ride in my new north Cotswolds home area. A mere 15 mile round trip to Shipston
On the way I saw a Red Kite, Buzzards and a fox.
My trip was meant to include a trip to a hardware shop for various picture hanging items but I found I had forgotten my wallet.
through the unbelievable village of Honnington - see photo (wonky pic but I was trying to be discreet). Delightful countryside and plenty of nice little hills. On the way I saw a Red Kite, Buzzards and a fox.

The finish of harvest on this farm in W.Lanc's marked by the building of this Bale-Bear, they were just finishing baling the straw from a field of oats behind it, The farmer said they were going to build a bale tractor next. It had only been up 20 minutes and he said I was the third person to photograph it. Click for full furry effect.

Excellent.
We saw lots of bale sculpture in France, but I don't think that I've ever seen anything like that in England.
