Plus Two Four Six, the Wild Boars are being brought out of the flooded cave labyrinth in Thailand, reports the Grauniad
They will be at the WC final to see our boys win

Out on the bike today I chatted to a couple of "not particularly young" riders on e-bikes. They seemed almost apologetic about their artificial assistance but why? Out in the good weather, enjoying fresh air on quiet lanes and bridleways, if the motors get them out in the first place it has to be a good thing. And they were getting some exercise, just going further than they would on a normal bike.

Nice that the temperature had dropped a bit as well.

I really hate the hot weather but I will not let it beat me, cycled in the sunshine yesterday to visit an old church, got a bit lost in the woods and had to ask the way
The interweb reported that the church would be open, but it was locked

I really like getting older, I was not angry at all, noted the opening times shown outside, had a picnic in the shady churchyard, cycled home

Looking forward to cycling there again soon

Yesterday, while continuing my exploration of the peninsula south of Chichester :-

Heading up from Pagham, towards Runcton the road was closed while the emergency service dealt with a vehicle collision somewhere ahead.

The temporary diversion would add another 5 miles to my weary, "going-home", legs. ( and heading back towards Bognor OMG ! and mostly busy, major roads ).

Glasses on : read the map. I spotted a bridleway, a little way back, giving me access across to South Mundham ==> a much shorter diversion through quiet country lanes.

New posters often ask for gentleness when asking technical questions, what are they afraid of?
I bet they are often surprised to get a dozen replies in a few hours, there are lots of helpful experienced friendly people here

Found the source of the annoying rattle on the commuter's front mudguard, now fixed. I must clean it more often  .

I really hate the hot weather but I just realised  I have read several books from cover to cover in the last couple of weeks, I am on page 522 of an authors diary for 1989, already read 1990, got 1991 to read next (543 pages)

I cycled to Southport to pick some samphire today, it took about ten minutes to pick about three

servings, had some for my tea , nice.I'll take a spare pair of shoes next time, very sticky tidal mud.

I also saw this extravagantly beaked bird sifting for it's food in front of one of the RSPB hides,

no idea what species it is.A very pleasant day out

Got a replacement Landranger map today, bargain off eBay.

The old one was about 30 years out of date. Aside from the sizeable holes at various folds it was missing much of the M20, HS1, a number of bypasses and various new housing estates.

Most notably the old one was absent. I gave it away a few years back to a cycletourist I'd met on a trail who needed it much more than I did at the time.
