A positive thread

Squirrels? Our security manager takes care of them....
One got in the house and after running up the curtains and along the picture rail went to ground so we called in Minnie who was on its scent trail in a trice and spotted it cowerinng under a chest in the hall. We lifted the corner and it streaked out of the front door and was pursued by Minnie in the pursuance of her duties accompanied by loud barking. It escaped up a 50ft pine tree at the bottom of the garden. For this exceptional service Minnie was rewarded with a sausage. Now, she is constantly on alert for further incursions.

Reuse, recycle, thus do your bit to save the planet.... Get stuff at auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Car Boots. Choose an Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can......

Good to see this separate two-lane cycle path under construction, whilst going past the Liver Building in Liverpool the other day. I'm not sure how far it runs yet.
It crosses over to the other side of the road;
I'm impressed with the amounts of new cycle specific works going on around Lancashire, there are similar ongoing constructions in Wigan and on the way into Preston as well. So well done them.Nu-Fogey

I visit London less than once per year, but every time I'm impressed and envious of the cycling facilities. The Santander/Boris bike rental works well for me. There are more and more bike lanes. Traffic is calmer, with more 20 mph limits. The sheer number of bike commuters is impressive, compared with some provincial towns where they're virtually extinct.

The Burma Road is part of a good mild off-road / cross country circuit near Aviemore. I enjoyed it on a showery day so it would be even better on a sunny one. There is a nicely graded climb on a good surface going clockwise so a fit person could pedal all the way up, then from the summit down to Carr Bridge it is almost all down hill with just a few short rough sections. Also had a pleasant chat with a ghilly after stags.

Thanks, you've taught me something there, in my ignorance I thought Liverpool and Wigan were still in Lancashire.Wilhelmus wrote: ↑21 Oct 2021, 6:48pm
Hear hear. And God be with the days when Liverpool and Wigan were in Lancashire. I was born in Lancashire, and lived there until 1974, when the Powers That Be decided I should, henceforth, live in Merseyside. I fooled them by moving to Pembrokeshire, only to discover it had now become Dyfed. It seems you can't win. Thankfully, though, Preston is still, at the time of writing, in Lancashire.
I stiil get mildly miffed about Moray and Borders, I used to adress my Christmas cards to relatives in Banffshire and Roxburghshire.
There is a sign on the towpath along Wigan saying welcome to Lancashire, that must be what it's about.

They still are. You just have to mutter "Historic county of... ".

I saw this fantastic memorial in Eccleston the other day, together with another knitted reminder atop Wiggo's golden post box, 'Lest We forget '. Indeed.
All hand knitted poppies, that's a lot of effort.

I saw a Glossy Ibis at 'Nell's Hide' in Southport today, quite a rare visitor apparently.

A pair of Snow Buntings seen at Southport on the sea wall today, what a beautiful bird, there were four of them.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_bunting Some Redshanks huddling up against the wind in Blackpool last week, with a gull playing 'Chad' over the sea wall. Some kindly bird watchers told me what the above birds were and also the little wader pictured below, but unfortunately I've forgotten what they said it was, anyone ?

Re: A positive thread
Is the one on its own a turnstone?

Thank you Jonathan, that was it. I could remember the 'stone' bit, not a name I'd heard before.
I'm not a birder, and can't keep their names or calls in my head very well (at all really) but I enjoy seeing them, a rose by any other name etc.
