If you have seen them fair enough but to me they seem a genuine attempt to show what cyclists have to put up with. Clickbait seems a bit harsh.

Not seen them but just suggesting a reason why some seem to like attracting people to their web sites/blogs/twats. Guardian are quite bad at it - they post an article that is totally daft, get lots and lots of negative comments and they don't care because the idea is to attract visitors and thus get ads out.

There are such extreme instances of terrible behaviour towards cyclists that I'm beginning to think less "raising awareness" with less extreme videos might be more helpful. Get fewer videos/reports but where even the worst drivers say "that is terrible" might achieve more that loads of examples where people can say how the cyclists contributed (sort of lets drivers "off the hook"). Lots of "run of the mill" incidents (that should not happen but are far from serious) and drivers begin to see cyclists as forever complaining whilst holding them up ...

hmmmm
A professional arranger of confrontations stops in the middle of, in order to block, a London street. He gets some abuse. he gets suggestions to get out of the way.
Of course he does. The video continues with increasingly pathetic attempts to wring something out of nothing. (ie a handgun mime)
It looks to me as though he went out of his way to inflame that situation, which was otherwise at worst a horn blast from somebody being held up.
Is it only me.........? I try quite hard not to be a PITA to motorists - to make the world a little more harmonious. I don't think the holier than thou, passive aggressive attitude of many is doing us any favours.
go on - give me some stick - I can take it :)

Anybody who know me would confirm that I am not a passive person. I will give as I get I hope, but I have notice that person with camera on their person filming whilst cycling tend to get lot of confrontational situations,

I also notice that many incidences of near misses could have been avoid if the cyclist read the road ahead and respond accordingly.

I have had confrontation in the past but not now, I learnt to deal with them better.

My own feelings are that whilst the driver was completely in the wrong, Mr Vine did not try and avoid the confrontation and to me from the limited video it looked like it might have been possible to avoid any confrontation. The driver was wrong, but the subsequent confrontation did nothing to help "re-educate" the driver who will probably be even less tolerant with cyclists next time.

My worry is that there are so many examples non-celebrity cyclists have posted on the internet where there was nothing the cyclist could have done to avoid the confrontation and where the outcome was far worse (I remember one this year where a white van pulled in in front of a cyclist and the driver came back and hit the cyclist and all clearly on video and with 3rd party witnesses).

It gets difficult because in being critical of Mr Vines part in the incident makes others assume that you are in some way exonerating the driver or maybe that you are expecting all cyclists to leap out of the way when any car might be delayed for a few seconds. But to me these are separate issues. The driver was totally in the wrong and of course Mr. Vine should have continued cycling as he was. But to chose to then have a confrontation becomes a different issue from the right and wrong of the driving/cycling behaviour.

I don't know, frankly when someone honks their horn at me I want to get off and fling the bike straight through their windscreen. It really pisses me off that these full of themselves superior motorists think they have the right to try to bully me out of their way by honking. I don't necessarily think I can change their way of thinking, but I do want them to know I'm not going to roll over and take it. Did enough of that at school avoiding being put in hospital by thugs. It's not just a horn blast; it's a statement of "I'm more important than you you grubby cycling oik, get out of my way."

I feel the same and on a few occasions have stopped in the middle of the road and "had words" with the driver and on occasions been well embarrassed because all the driver was doing was alerting me to their presence (they can't always see I have a rear view mirror but can note I have not turned round and seen them).

With respect, that's the frame you perceive it through, and your earlier statement "...frankly when someone honks their horn at me I want to get off and fling the bike straight through their windscreen" perhaps colours my view further :?

Indeed. We're all rather quick to anger these days irrespective of our mode of transport. I typically don't use my horn when cruising gently up behind cyclists on local country roads for fear I'm being perceived to be acting in this way, which is a pretty sad state of affairs, isn't it :(

As in many other ways - a car horn honk is louder and worse for a cyclist (it's designed to grab the attention of someone further away and in a soundproof box....) & really makes you jump....
I find the resulting injection of adrenaline quite good for my speed average though...... :)

PS in the car I can never find the horn when I want it...... Some folk are incredibly fast to find the horn - it's like they were already hovering over the button just in case..

One of my horn units is broken, so all I emit is a rather pathetic "meep"

I have had a driver honk at me a few times when it was appreciated (from around a blind bend, for example), but most of the time, when drivers have honked at me, it was clear that their purpose was to startle me, tell me to get out the way, etc. The worst was being 'buzzed' by someone in Chelmsford as punishment for not using a ridiculously narrow gutter cycle lane. I jumped and wobbled a bit (I felt the slip stream from the wing mirror on my elbow). When I looked round at the car as it went past, the dirver was laughing and flipping me a birdy.

It seems to be the frame through which many drivers perceive it too.
For a time I used an aerosol foghorn on my bike, It seemed to enrage some drivers. One chased me.

I don't want to sound like Judge Pickles asking who were the Beatles, but I must have led a sheltered life. I presume it's some sort of gesture, but it's not an expression I have heard round here. :?
