Garmin Edge 810 £180 is that a good buy?

Mine is an edge tour, and cost a lot more.
Seems to be a bargain. Never ride without mine.
And no, I don't do the Strava thing ...

£180 seems to be a good price. The cheapest otherwise seems to be around £216. Don't forget this doesn't include any maps (apart from the near useless "basemap"), but OSM based maps can be downloaded free (how to instructions here).

It's a good deal if you need the sporting things, if it's for routes and recording, the Edge Touring which is the same unit without some of the functions and with maps already loaded can be had for around £140 or the Touring Plus which has a couple of extra features £165

Or just use your smartphone and spend £50 on a decent top tube bsg and external battery pack if you plan on doing longer (duration) rides.

I paid £300 for my 810 about 18 months ago, though it was with the Performance bundle with maps, hrm, cadence and wheel sensor. It's an excellent bit of kit and I'd thoroughly recommend getting one. Great for just recording your ride data, uploads to Garmin Connect and Strava via Bluetooth and it's also good for following a pre-planned route if you are riding an audax or on tour.

I suspect that they are selling them off cheap as it's been replaced by the 820.

When commuting in winter I use my hybrid with mudguards, neoprene shoe covers, but still get water in through the gap at the cleats on the sole (even though I tried to duck tape the inside of the shoe under the insole to minimise the water ingress). Would these help me keep feet dry or do you still get that squelchy, horrible feel ?

Waterproof socks all leak after some use. I get 1.5 to 2years out of sealskinz. There's loads of fake sealskinz around BTW.

These ALDI ones are basically the same design. They'll last possibly as long. At less.than half the price you could consider them disposable after an Autumn, winter and early spring usage. They're as good enough.

Rocky Gore tex socks are better by all accounts but USA only these days. Plus they're or pricey.

The gloves look quite nice, but who knows how long they will last. I've had gloves from them that lasted years until I lost them. I've had gloves from them that lasted a month then split.

For Aldi cycling clothing, I've always bought it when it's marked down to half price at the end of the offer. It seems to last.

BTW: My local Aldi opens at 8am. I'm at work now. As it was early hours, I didn't have time to look at the clothing. I don't wear much cycling clothing apart from a high vis jacket - I wear my normal clothing otherwise. Though, given how much that flaps in the wind, slowing me down with wind friction, perhaps I should.

If I didn't cycle, there is no way I'd be able to get to Aldi, shop, return home, and then cycle to work.

You should have gone to Lidl. Their lights were the same price and K-marked so legally-sufficient.

My family collectively loses and breaks lights. I'm sure I'll have the 'opportunity' to buy some new lights sometime. Are the Lidl lights available all the time, or only on special offers.

Only specials and then not all sets are K-marked. They might still have some from a few weeks ago, though.
