What they're planning to build looks like a motorway service area.

Surely there are restrictions on building in such high remote areas, is it in an AONB?

The area itself isn't particularly outstanding, other than the scarp slope to the West and view over towards the Lakes. I'd have thought a distinctive building of any genre would be a positive outcome (NB. Definitely better than the pebble dashed, flat roofed, hardcore car park that was there previously)

And as to motorway services; I'd always make a point of stocking up for lunhc at Aldi's in Penrith/Hexham prior to heading over the Pennines

Oh dear...that it not a good look at all.
I'm all for "moving with the times" but I'm sure they could rebuild something "modern" but using the original stone?

There was an old twee Tea shop by the Lake in Keswick with terraced outside seating and a couple of years ago it was replaced by this:-

Right again 100%, Hartside would be a great place for a Hobbit-House built into the hill

Something like the Ponderosa on Horse Shoe Pass North Wales would look better than that "artists" impression!

True, but anything will be better than the thing that was there previously  . Can't say I support arson, but they've done a service this time
