Fake police officer stops cyclists

This is a bit of a weird but disturbing story in my local paper:

Something similar happened to me, although I was driving a car at the time. It was a few years ago 1979 to be precise, I had just passed my car test, he pulled me over and waved a two way radio at me to prove he was a police officer, After an argument of telling me my rear passengers should have seat belts they didn't need them at the time, not even drivers needed them then. I drove home and told my father what had happened. who immediately rang the police to ask if it was an officer, they took a statement but I couldnt remember the registration. Six months later he tried it again, this time the person he stopped was a young newly qualified Police Officer, who promptly arrested him I got asked to confirm my Statement and asked if I would give evidence. but he pleaded guilty beforehand. I believe he got 6 months.

Definitely a criminal offence under the Police Act 1996. I believe there are some restrictions on what kind of police uniform (if any) can be hired for fancy-dress parties etc.
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.

Risky business as I can imagine some folk would be none too impressed with that sort of behaviour.

“Genuine police officers will always properly identify themselves in this type of situation. They will be identifiable by their uniform, or if they are in plain clothes then they will produce a warrant card.”

Who knows what a warrant card looks like? In this day and age surely anyone could produce something plausible to anyone who is not very familiar with real ones. :?

I had a muet caliming to be a Police Officer to make his point after I complained about him pulling out of a junction without looking

Wasn't at all happy when I asked him whether he would be competing a form PC23 about the incident.... apparently he didn't have any PC23s on him.

Didn't surprise me as I had made it up

Dropped the head cam video into the local Police who apparently had words
