As a matter of interest; to me at least, does the RH&D have a cycle policy? Thanks for any info. Mike

I think you'd be hard pressed to squeeze one on there - though riding along the coast is nice and easy!

There's a luggage coach on (IIRC) every train that takes pushchairs, wheelchairs etc. Pretty sure you could fit a bike in there but I'd give the railway a ring before travelling.

If you are tall you might find the carriages are too squat for the bike. IIRC as a six footer you sit on quite a low seat and your head nearly touches the roof.
Don't let that put you off going though. The area is great to ride (although the wind can be a drag) and the steam engines are masterpieces!
Current status report:
Back on two wheels in deepest Pastyland and loving every minute. Mission: to enjoy big, bad hills again.

Thanks for all that. It was for an elderly friend who was worried about making it in face of a stiff breeze.

From their website

"We are able to take a few bicycles on the train for a flat rate of £2 per bike in addition to your travel ticket."

Leaving the train at Hythe for the ride back to Dungeness. This is about half of the group.
