Schools used to be much more open than they are today. Horrett Campbell caused a change of policy.

Is "a decent citizen" code for a doormat who does whatever teachers and police say, no matter how unreasonable? I seem to remember countries that got into a bit of bother due in part to following orders - is that where we're heading?

As for the "it's not that cold", here's a picture of me after riding home through pretty cold rain this evening, which may explain why I don't think the parent's attire is that unusual or unreasonable. Sorry for the lack of smile - I don't really like taking selfies!

Here in the land of True Western Grit we only wear face protection in conditions below -5c.

Otherwise people laugh at us.
And anyway the air is so sweet to breathe unencumbered.

No-one questions him cycling with a mask. He could simply have removed it. Not a doormat: just simply courteous.

Because it's cold and it's not a reasonable request? Also, it seems that some school staff said it was OK, others said it wasn't, not just those on the videos, but they do it too.

FWIW, I walked into the post office earlier with my buff on (but hood down) to send a letter. No problem. The postmaster knows me and I wasn't in there like that long.

I'm surprised you wear face protection even then, sitting in your air-conned cars, which may be the only place to find sweet air near schools at hometime these days.

We are all so poor over here we can't afford new flash cars. ; or for some, a car at all.

At least we agree his behaviour is foolish and unnecessarily confrontational.

My guess is that there are other issues here.

I think the cyclist is a boorish fool, probably having a bad day but still a boorish fool.

Yes, because it's his realm and it's not cold indoors. If he demanded I not wear it between door and the public cycle park, I'd probably refuse, or at least ask why.

No, because it would be odd to wear such a mask in a car. I'd defend a walker who covered their face in winter, though.

don't get me wrong, i'd be peeved by having a policeman tell me i've been reported by a headmistress for being rude! i'd consider that a waste of time too - but then i'd give her no reason to say it. Bit of an odd thing for one adult to report another adult for..

just take the damned thing off - pretty simple. I mean you wouldn't rock up in your mankini would you?

yes there are other people breaking rules like the car driver sitting there but hey, how do you suppose they'd react if asked to turn their engine off? spout some rubbish about their rights to be there blah blah blah or just say sorry and turn it off? It's escalating for the sake of escalating.

Sadly I agree,these people lead meaningless and uneventful lives if that's what strums their wildly out of tune strings
