I think that's fair. In addition, I find that camber tends to make me want to ride nearer the centre of the road than I might on a bike. But, if anything, you'd expect being further out to result in closer passing, and I'm not sure that it does - if anything, the opposite.

I think it's because it changes the drivers mindset.

If you're narrow then the driver is thinking how to go passed without deviating to far off a straight line.
If you're wide then the driver is thinking I've got to pull out to overtake you and is more willing to deviate off the straight line.
