Grrr - Lidl replaces Sheffield stands with Wheel Benders

Post by FatBat »

My local Lidl (Holmfirth) has just replaced five Sheffield stands with five wheel-benders. Won't be going there again.

I think I'll direct the store manager to this little video

Check your local planning policies and their permission. It would normally be a breach of conditions requiring secure standard parking here, which the local cycling campaign would report to the enforcement officers.

Reported the removal of cycle parking at the local Tesco Express some eleven months ago, investigation promised.

When it reaches twelve months I may follow it up.

Concentrate on the basics! Having previously been a routine Waitrose shopper, Lidl's is incredible! Quality of food is unmatched, prices are incredible - have to admit the last couple of years I've actually used a "shop finder" prior to tour, to ensure I can reach a LIdl's (Nb. Or at a push, an Aldis  ) at the end of the day

I've yet to find anywhere in the UK offering Pain au Chocolate of such quality (NB. Much to the nuisance of the staff; I've only been in twice today!)

..

Where do you shop instead, does your boycott cost you in time, cash, choice?
Wish I had a lidl near home, I do have an aldi, it has wheel-benders I think, but I always walk there :?

Why does you going in to Lidl to buy Pain au Chocalate cause a nuisance?

I expect the investigation will find cycle parking takes up car parking space.

I can't resist answering!

Lidls operate on the basis of "volume" sales, the local LIDL's even getting rid of the hand baskets because it encouraged people to have smaller shops.

And so, having a nuisance customer who buys a single Pain Au Chocolate 5-6 occ's per week and nothing else is a nightmare situation for LIDL's management and timed checkout operators (NB. Said checkout operator has to stop stocking the shelves, run to the checkout, start the till systems running and then finally sell me my £0.48 Pain Au Chocolate, prior to returning to stocking the shelves). Can't be much profit in that

Gbnz do you love or hate lidl? Where else do you shop?
Maybe a minimum till value could be introduced, french stores used to have a sign: 'pas de sortie sans achat', no exit without a purchase :?

I prefer Sheffield stands with a second horizontal bar at knee level so one may secure front wheel + frame and back wheel + frame using two locks
Had a front wheel stolen once (not at lidl)

I often see a chap cycle to lidl and lock his bike up by the entrance, the problem is the post he locks his bike to is only four feet tall!

I have seen that too, the cycle could just be lifted and taken away :?

Well, locking the wheel to the frame and leaning the bike against the shop wall is still common, so at least they have to lift one locked to a short post! Might be enough to make a thief take a leant one instead?
