Cycle route closures

Post by vinodhatcyclinguk »

Hi,
I am new to this forum. Is there any websites with accurate cycle path closures please? I have started cycling recently and have been using the canal side path from Northolt to central London. Realised it is closed recently for few weeks for some work. How do i know on such occasions please? Many thanks.

Don't hold your breath - I've not heard of one. Our local Sustrans path has been closed without apparent notice and the only course of action when meeting the obstruction was to turn around and go another way. I suppose those responsible think it doesn't matter because they imagine it's only used by dog walkers and recreational cyclists. The fact that some of us use it regularly to transport life's essentials (food in my case) probably doesn't enter their heads. So much for encouraging a sustainable lifestyle.

I would make a small wager that there is some obscure council website which lists these works.

Sadly it won't be as easy to find as the sites with interactive modern maps showing roadworks. This may apply;

www.roadworks.org shows some closures and diversions, but it is often inaccurate, showing things as closed to cycling when they are not. Also, it does not show closures on canal paths, which I guess will be somewhere in the Canals and Rivers Trust website - aha! https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/ ... o-alperton
