Three noughts starts at a grand, much less than the price of an ordinary car, pocket money. What did you mean?

Cycling on the road seems obviously too dangerous to me

The speed the cyclists were doing has nothing to do with anything.
The point is,the driver caused the crash and subsiquent pain and suffering.

We had this happen once when driving about 25 years ago..... stupid ignorant idiot trying to overtake when he shouldn't, in a hurry, but not so much of a hurry that he chose to cut straight in front of us and slam his brakes on  . My Wife was amazed that we didn't hit the rear of his car (cyclist's leg on the brake  ), and he then got out to confront us. We quickly locked the doors and I shouted to him "I'll ******** run you over if you come any closer!" As I drove the car at him he beat a hasty retreat :D ...... hopefully it taught him a lesson  Unfortunately (if on a bike) you don't have a suitable weapon to retaliate with :(

Hi,
Devon on TV tonight.
Sounds like the police are interested in the driver, For other offences?
Trying to work out exactly where it is, one of three quite steep hills , All of which you can be moving pretty quickly.
But no matter how fast you are moving on the bike someone always wants to overtake you.

Not happened to me yet - thankfully! Nearest parallel incident, for me, was when I was driving - in the USA. On a quiet country road (yes there are some of those in the States!), late at night, another motorist tailgates for a while then overtakes aggressively. I flash my lights at him and he stops about 20 yards in front of me. I stop too. It was scary - he might have been carrying a gun! But he drives off after about a minute. Phew!

With cars being made to broadcast their presence at all times even during the day via LED sidelights then maybe it is time to add a bit more information to this illumination by also broadcasting the car registration, current speed, and GPS position. This could be transmitted by the LED sidelights just like an IR remote control.

Once this information gets received then any infractions of the highway code can trigger automatic punishment stops e.g. by triggering the next red traffic light. This would be a better way of enforcing speed limits than speed humps since it would target only the offenders.

This could also help cyclists with evidence gathering since a simple video camera would be able to record all the information about the offending car including the registration, the car speed, and location.

Hi,
Motorcycles in cycle races, even safety motorcycles   :?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-49893019

"Ms Dolan was also injured in June when she was hit by a race safety motorbike, breaking her arm in four places"
Not lucky for sure.

Is see on BBC text news that D&C plod are investigating the accident.
Lets do hope they get hold of the culprit though expect Lauren Dolan's compensation/ solicitor's bill will hurt/cost them more then the plod/courts punishment.
