Never used the path - ever.

You're not the user for whom cycle paths and shared use paths are made.

In the same way that motorways aren't for everyone.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

Naughty
When I was down there which was about 15 months ago, they were already at work on the path look like paving like you see along walk ways by the coast.
If that's how it's going to be it will be quite pleasant as it will be easy to cycle and certainly more pleasing than a road.
Who wouldn't want a view of the beach rather than smoky tail pipes.
The Exe Trail which is Exeter estuary It's about 30 miles or so, It goes along the canal adjacent to the railway line and even touches on the city winding its way through some villages as well.
But all in all it's pretty slick in a lot of places and certainly will make a lot more headway than on the road, if not than a better experience.

No, I'm not ....... as you know well.

I'm making the point that we're all different, and giving an alternative view.

Did all 79 bridges over the A30 a while back Exeter to the West. This is Bridge 79 at Longrock. The last bridge.

Just thinking about Bridge 79 and remembering, so I'm putting the record straight before someone pulls me up on this!

I came onto the bridge from the southern end, and it wasn't untill popping out at the northern end, that I saw a No Cycling sign.
No indication on the southern end, so I rode over it unaware. I'd have walked if I'd known.

No Streetview of the southern end, but there is one at the northern end.
This is the bridge.

Totally agree ... the route on local roads via Mexico Inn is quiet and safe ... the path has been closed before for repair to storm damage many times ... The surface is a gravel bike / MTB surface but i regularly ride it safely and without issue on my 28mm Vittoria's ...
The anti-skateboard surface to the east of Longrock between the level crossing and the toilets is a much more aggressive surface....
Tarmac would be nice from the end of the concrete surface by Penzance station and Marazion Station pub ...

Feeling guilty about access to Bridge 79 so I'll put the record straight.
Found a Streetview of the southern end.

No sign of a No Cycling sign.

No sign of a No Cycling sign.

But there is on the other side, which normally means one has been removed

Just as you pointed out. It looks like a quiet path where in practical terms there ought not to be much conflict. A place to take it easy and get off if you meet someone pushing a pram or someone with a mobility scooter etc.

That is probably what I would do if I really wanted to use that route.

My guess would be that the closure notice covers the whole of the period during which you should expect individual, short portions of the route to be closed, rather than the whole route being closed for the whole six months.

But my point is, that at one end ............ where I went in .............. there was -and still is no doubt - no indication that cycling is disallowed ............... which is daft. Allow cycling or not.

Further to this, and that's what this thread is all about really, is that cycling provision needs to be improved there.
If you don't like the roads and want to use an alternative route, Bridge 79 gives access from the Longrock area away from the main roads through to Gulval and to Penzance.

I bet one of a pair of signs has been pinched. How wide is the path on the bridge?

From memory?
Seven or eight feet maybe.

The whole place was deserted when I rode over it - and stopped to take a photo.

3 Aug 2018
I'd driven down to Camborne and parked up, then rode to and over, Bridges 59 to 79 and took me 4hrs 36mins to do the 50miles.
I keep bike ride records! :D

I'd started very early, so I was on that bridge at 08:30 heading north across it.
Right down at bottom left of the map.

That bridge has easy ramped access from the north end and kerbed access at the south. So perhaps they felt the northern access needed clarification about no cycling (because you don’t have to stop and hop your bike up) while the south is defined as a continuation of the pavement rather than the road.
Winter had arrived in the land of Kernow. Along with it came wet roads and cool winds.
“Oh, my wheels and coupling rods!” Peetee exclaimed.

Yep, true I suppose, but you can get from the carpark through the gap and over the bridge.

I expect that the planners of the access didn't have joined-up thinking.

It looks like I went along the pavement to get to the bridge as the kerb is low on the corner.

17.7miles into my ride and doing 4.7mph.
It was 17.7degC and I was 26ft above sea level. GPS has a different system to global spherical reality and OS mapping and mean sea levels .......... before anyone pulls me up on the facts! :D
