I too always glance at post bixes on rides, and can confirm there are many examples of VR wall boxes in South Wales. Time moves slowly here.
Re: Queen Victoria Postboxes
Yes, I shall pay more attention now to the dear old British post box. I’ve probably passed some other VR ones without even noticing!

A couple of days ago I had occasion to actually post a letter.
Oh dear. It's actually a GR postbox. Only two reigns out... The first post boxes were introduced in the 1850s, the street was built in 1841, so they waited at least 60 years to get a post box.

I'm in Halstead, Essex. My neighbour has, I believe, the largest collection of post boxes in UK. They fill his garden, he has a phone box and a replica post office in a shed. He does have open days. Royal Mail occasionally deliver unusual redundant ones to him. They're heavy!

I always check post boxes to see how old they are. I have not thought about taking photographs but will now!
Next thing to collect is perhaps Trig points? A redundant and dying breed I believe.

Re: Queen Victoria Postboxes
So it seems 75% of boxes aren't Queen Elizabeth II or George V. I have often looked at the "emblem" on them but not really noted their locations. Perhaps I will in future.
Another thing I look at is duct and drain covers. They show quite a lot of history.
Those over telephone ducts are national examples. Those stating Post Office Telegraphs seem to be along routes, which I expect would be the earliest. Later ones state Post Office Telephones ie not Telegraphs. This is pure observation and is my assumption
I think it's still true that these covers are still imperial dimensions in spite of the measurements manufacturers provide. At least it was a few years ago when I wanted to order some and their frames for other duct covers.

Eton - another pillar-shaped pillar box (hence the name):

Re: Queen Victoria Postboxes
This postbox is at Thurnham, in Kent. It was a bit of a lucky find as I'd stopped to check whether a turning led to the church, which it didn't- the one I wanted to find was a bit further on. Opposite where I was standing, I saw this postbox.
