Re: Marazion to Penzance coast path
Hi,
With a tour of Britain starts in Penzance today and apparently a lot of money has been spent locally £2.8 million?
Did they ever get round to finishing the cycle path Marazion to Penzance?

They were working on it last week. Will be a very nice surface when it's finished.
Re: Marazion to Penzance coast path
Today’s update. No access at all from Long Rock car park in either direction. The adjacent section towards Penzance was undergoing sub-surface compacting so the concrete path surface should follow. I haven’t checked but as they were working towards Long Rock on my last visit I would imagine that is near completion.
Towards Marazion there is considerable fencing obscuring the view but again, teams were working adjacent to the car park so possibly similarly advanced.
It was mid-tide when I visited and two leisure riders on hybrids were having no trouble riding on the compacted sand of the beach.

Long Rock to Penzance is rideable. The exit to Long Rock car park is over a rough, loose sandy surface for 100 meters then there is a short sharp rise of about 2m that takes you up to the level concrete path all the way to PZ station.
I have to say though, that the quality of work is poor and very many of the concrete sections are cracked and may fail an inspection. If so, remedial work could result in another lengthy closure. The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Looks like it’s fully open now.

Hi,
I would of preferred a fine not tyre harming grit that is super smooth to cycle on without it being horrible concrete!
Talk about aesthetic........not
You wouldn't want to have a tumble on that.

OTOH Iast summer I saw quite a number of people with mobility issues using it. There may be a connection, perhaps. There's certainly no shortage of concrete structures along that stretch, so give it a year or two and it'll blend right in.

Is that the adjacent cemetry where the workers are buried. Looks like "Boot Hill".

Yes, not ideal. It’s near-white and is very bright in summer sunlight. While I applauded the initiative, yesterday the majority of users were dog walkers. Why these people persist in using such paths when there is a lovely beach alongside is beyond me. Sand (loose or packed - you have the choice here) is far more healthy for dog paws and joints.NATURAL ANKLING wrote: ↑27 Jan 2022, 4:31pm Hi,

I’m the OP of this thread. It’s good to know that the path, however bright and shiny, is at last open. Too late for me, though, since I’m now living on a narrow boat on the Kennet and Avon canal, where the towpath does not alway make for happy cycling. Some stretches are wide and with a good surface. Others, like here near Semington, are narrow, stony and dangerous. Between Bradford-on-Avon and Bath there is mud, sweat and tears.

Useful context for those who are disappointed with other paths OP.RodT wrote: ↑29 Jan 2022, 9:10am I’m the OP of this thread.
