Nights are drawing but there’s Hope

Post by Ivorcadaver »

It’s that time of year for the annual light and bracket hunt. Hunted high and low for the past week for my trusty Hope One which I bought about 10 years ago. Suddenly struck me that I had it about a month ago when fiddling under the bonnet of the car, lo and behold there it was sitting in the air intake. Probably done 300 miles, bouncing around in the rain and wind. Worked perfectly. It really is a design classic.

I have a single Hope LED type with cord and separate battery case.
It was expensive and quite well made.
The light better than the case.

I would not buy another for the simple reason that as the batteries start to fail the light goes out.
It is exactly what I DON'T want on narrow unlit lanes. No warning, just Poof!
And I have cursed it as a bad design for cycling more than once.

I now use a 3AA battery, cheap black plastic Lidl (or Aldi?) single LED type.
It simply gets steadily dimmer. Three modes. Only one brightness.

It has a simple double rubber band type mount which has proved very robust and stable. Easy to put on and very fast off the bike.
Sadly not seen another like it.
