Re: Petty annoyances on the road....
Most of the things already mentioned (not the one about not quite catching another cyclist, seeing as that's something I'd never be able to do!)
Pedestrians about to cross who step back hurriedly and scowl when they see me coming, even though they're on the 'green man' and I'm coming to a stop. Yes I understand, I know there are RLJs amongst the vast medley of cyclists and POBs. I just don't like being tarred....

Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.

I'll agree with the event signs. I ran a 100 mile motorbike event a few years ago. Arrows went up in the morning as the event started and the course closers took them down on the heels of the last man. Fail to see why not every event.

Farm vehicles with trailers with no indicators or thised who just don't bother using them.
The Broom-wagon removed all the signs on my old Team's Sportive. They were reused the next year.

Roads that have a crack running perpendicular every few yards - bdm, bdm.
4x4/SUV's in general. Take up too much room on the road, so they frequently overtake and then immediately stop when they can't get through a pinch point.

Badly repaired potholes. Years ago, they would take the trouble to ensure the repair was at the same level as the surrounding road and would even seal the edges with bitumen. Now they just come along, drop in some tarmac and flatten it down a bit, so there’s a 5 to 10mm edge to the repair. Or they don’t sort out the underlying problem, so the repair then cracks up in a couple of months.
Roads that are resurfaced but within months start to have cracks in them due to camber-creep.
Large 4x4’s driven by people who have little or no spatial awareness.

Or where they've surface dressed (a couple of times) or resurfaced a road and not bothered to raise the ironwork - creating iron bottomed artificial potholes.TrevA wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021, 10:02pm Badly repaired potholes. Struggling to suppress the big important annoyances to find the petty ones.
Anti-cycle gates and obstructions on cycle routes. Out of control dogs. Leaves. Rattles and creaks you can't quite locate.

Drivers that stop anywhere - rather than find a safe place to pull over - just so they can fiddle with their phone.

Happy to continue peeving those that let that bother them.Jamesh wrote:Do you have any petty annoyances on the road?!!

Electric scooters.
Cyclists who I don't know who insist on a greeting and if going your way a chat. I'm out for a ride, just want to enjoy my time not socialise with strangers.
Potholes you ride into and several seconds later ride out of again. Not joking or exaggerating!
Waste recycling and skip lorries. If you've experienced them you'll know why.
Overly bright bike lights that don't easily dip and a corollary to that is cyclists on the wrong side of the road with excessively bright trail lights stopping to have a chat with the lights facing oncoming traffic.

So some hate it when people fail to acknowledge them.
Others hate it when they do acknowledge them.
Humanity, i guess.
